BCB President Aminul to face 'tough test' after return

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul has returned to the country, ending speculation over his absence during a turbulent period for the board.

His return, amid a deepening domestic cricket crisis, places him under mounting administrative and political pressure.

The former national captain, who made history as Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, arrived in Dhaka late on March 28 after more than a month abroad and visited the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday (March 29).

Aminul, who assumed the BCB presidency on May 30, 2025, following a change in government, now faces scrutiny over the board’s controversial election held last October.

A five-member high-level probe committee formed by the National Sports Council is nearing completion of its investigation into allegations of irregularities, lack of transparency, and government interference in the vote.

The BCB president is likely to be questioned as part of the investigation.

The situation is further complicated by internal discontent within the board, resignations of directors, and a stagnation in domestic cricket. Questions have also been raised over Bangladesh’s absence from the recent T20 World Cup, with a separate government inquiry reportedly under consideration.

Cricket analysts say Aminul now faces a far more difficult “test” off the field than during his playing career, as the future of the board and his leadership hangs in the balance.
